PREPARE MATERIALS

Please read the information below to insure the best quilting experience possible.

Important Information:

Please see the client prep sheet for important information for preparing your quilt for Longarming. This tip sheet will help save me time and you money if adhered to.

Tops

Quilt tops should be squared up, pressed with your top threads trimmed.

Please stay stitch 1/8 inch from the edge of the quilt. This will prevent stretching and will keep seams that extend to the edges from raveling. This is especially important if you have strippy borders.

Mark the top and backing of the quilt if direction matters with a safety pin.

Backs

Quilt backs and batting need to be larger than the top as follows:

Baby-Throw 3” longer/wider than the top all around and pressed

Twin 4” longer/Wider than the top all around and pressed

Queen/King 5” longer and wider than the top all around and pressed

When making your backings, please sew your backing seams 1” and trim off ¼” off the edge, which removes your selvedge edge. Press your seams OPEN. By doing this, the top will lie nice and flat and will not pucker from the selvedge. Be sure to square up your backing fabric. Just a note, bed linens are not recommended as backing because of their high thread count. Over time, this means that because of the tight weave, threads can shred. A backing fabric is better because of the loose fibers.

Embellishments

DO NOT add embellishments until after the quilting process is completed.

Battings

You may supply your own batting; however I do not accept any high loft battings. I do carry Hobbs 80/20 Heirloom batting in Natural, White and Black. I also carry Quilters Dream Select 100% cotton.

Book-a-date

If you need to have your quilt completed by a specific time, you can schedule a quilt date with me for a fee of $25. After quilting is completed, this fee is subtracted from the total amount due. Basically, this is a deposit to hold a certain quilting date open.
